Fasting

 NH Episode 2

Fasting is voluntary abstinence from food for a period of time. The word fasting is being used for various activities, however it is most commonly identified as spiritual excercise across various cultures and religions.

Fasting is a very important activity that has many benefits, although most of the time we don't often practice it without spiritual activity. The human digestive system was not designed to function round the clock or to be fed ad-libitum, it needs time to rest and readjust itself to function properly. Just like every engine needs time to rest and also be maintained too. The human body also has an optimum amount of calories as average daily requirements needed to be absorbed in the digestive tract daily. However, taking in more nutrients than necessary comes with it's problems too.

Types of Fast:

There are various types, depending on individual and spiritual purpose. But I will highlight a few.

"1. Dry fast:* This type of fast as the name implies simply means nothing is ingested, not even water within 24 hours and can carry on for some days. This is an intensive kind of fast. During this excercise, we recommend no heavy duty or serious activities should be done during this period. I recommend it can be done when there is need to lose excessive weight.

2. Intermittent fasting: This type of fast is simply skipping meals during the day. One may decide to skip one or two meals a day so as to manage daily calorie intake. It is often practiced to achieve desired weight or size.

3. Keto Fast: Also knows as Keto diet. It's a type of fast where some classes/types of food are greatly reduced or totally removed from one's meals. In the case of Keto Fast, Carbohydrate sources are removed.

*Note: Keto diet should be practiced only when recommended by your Physician/Dietician/Nutritionist
