Nut Hub Episode 1
Water and Life
I often get very interesting questions as to what water does in the body.
"Do water help lose weight?"
"Do water help weight gain?"
"What happens when I take too much water?"
The questions goes on and on, but please don't hesitate to drop yours too. I am here for you.
According to what we were taught in school, we were told good Water is Colourless, Odourless, and Tasteless. Permit me to add Calorie-less (Contains no calories). However, water is the most important thing to be consumed by everyone, and it can not be replaced or foregone for any reason. We can't overemphasize the need and benefit of water.
Because the human body is composed of 70% water. This water is involved and used up in many of the body processes and needs to be replaced as regularly as possible. This is why an adult in normal environment needs to drink and average of 3litres of water daily. However, we should note that drinking too much water can lead to loss in electrolyte balance (Hyponatremia).
When should you drink water?
1. First thing in the morning: this help to level up the electrolyte balance and replace water lost over the night.
2. Before you get thirsty: Thirst is an early sign of dehydration. We should try to drink enough water as regularly as possible.
Why should you drink water?
1. It helps maintain a healthy body weight.
2. It helps balances the body electrolyte processes.
3. It is the medium for chemical and enzymatic reactions in the body.
4. Aiding Digestion
5. Detoxification of liver and kidneys
6. Protecting tissues and organs
7. Regulating blood pressure
8. Regulating body temperature
9. Improving skin quality.
Understanding that water is a basic necessity for life, I recommend that we consume enough of it.
