Diabetes – Watching the sugar

NH Episode 5

Gone are the days when cases of diabetes were commonly associated with the elderly. However, In our current time diabetes cuts across different age groups. A common school of thought believes it is caused by the changes in our lifestyle and especially in our diets, and with this point I strongly agree. This has led to some good drugs being produced to help control or regulate bloods sugar levels in diabetic patients. The outcome of medical treatments has been able to produce a degree of result which is satisfactory for the wellbeing of the patients so far. However, a proper diet will make the drugs being used more effective.

If you are a diabetic or are currently managing a diabetic patient, I suggest you read this article. In my experience with consulting and managing diabetic patients, I got to understand that their lifestyle is often the biggest threat to their health management. This is not always entirely their fault, there is also the part of withdrawal symptoms involved too. It’s more of Psychological or emotional for them, imagine telling someone to stay away from something they love and has been used to all their lives, it becomes very difficult for them to seize everything all at once, and to make matters worse, their foods are not being replaced. They then feel restricted to just a few foods which they will eventually get tired of and fall back to their old eating habits.

In subsequent posts, we are going to be looking at the different types of diabetes, their causes, and management through proper eating habits. We will even explore various types of foods that are on the diabetic menu options and why they are safe to eat. The best part is that these foods are affordable and can be eaten by almost anybody because of their nutritional value and how they are used up in the body. They will generally help you to maintain healthy blood sugar levels so you hopefully don’t have to worry about being a diabetic in the nearest future.

More so, Being Diabetic is not a death sentence. The good news is that it can be managed and the individual can live a full and normal life. This can be achieved firstly by eating right, then have adequate exercise, using your medication if you are currently on one. As earlier stated, we’ll be saying more about diabetes management is our subsequent posts.
