Proteins are believed to be one of the most essential and basic nutrients required by the body. And that is because Proteins are the building blocks of the body, they are also responsible for body tissue repair. Protein are responsible for the production of enzymes that takes part in a chemical reactions, and these reactions are necessary to keep us alive and well, they are also important for the development of the immune system.
protiens are primarily formed by amino acid gotten by the breakdown of protiens from digestion. However, when there is insufficient energy in the body, proteins are the next enerygy source being used after body fat is exhausted. In this kind of situation we say the body begins to feed on itself.
Lack of protein and a protein deficient diet can cause severe damage of the body leading to serious forms of diseases. Kwashiokor and Marasmus are the leading diseases in protein deficiency. On the other hand, excess of proteins on a daily diet has been linked to liver and kidney diseases. More research is still on going in to prove this. I still suggests that the rule of moderation should apply "too much of everything is bad.".
